LOXLEY Ala. A reckless driver who was also speeding down the Baldwin Beach Express Friday evening caught the attention of an Alabama State Trooper.

The Toyota Tacoma was stopped by the trooper near County 62, and the Loxley Police were dispatched to assist the trooper.

Four juveniles, including the driver, were inside the vehicle.

After the ALEA trooper’s investigation, the vehicle was searched and the juvenile arrested for Reckless Endangerment, a Class A Misdemeanor offense that carries substantial penalties including up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $6,000.

In Alabama, reckless endangerment is a Class A misdemeanor defined as engaging in conduct that creates a substantial risk of serious physical injury to another person. It’s important to note that this crime does not require intent to harm, but rather reckless disregard for the safety of others.

Drivers can also face a charge of Reckless Driving when they are operating a motor vehicle carelessly and heedlessly, or in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property, or without due caution and circumspection, and at a speed or in a manner to endanger or be likely to endanger any person or property. This can include actions like speeding, weaving through traffic, ignoring traffic signals, or tailgating. Penalties for reckless driving in Alabama include fines, jail time, and potential license suspension.
