451,000 gallons of Sanitary Sewer Overflow Escapes Into The Mobile Bay
FAIRHOPE, Ala.
Fairhope Mayor Sherry Sullivan said that than 451,000 gallons of Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSOs) from a treatment place in Fairhope today, escaped due to an overflow at a manhole at the wastewater treatment plant.
Mayor Sullivan stressed that this was not a sewage spill. The overflow contained fully treated effluent, she said.
According to the Alabama Department of Environment Management said that the spill occurred from just before 8 a.m. to just after 1 p.m.
The spill entered a storm drain that empties into Mobile Bay, according to ADEM.
