MOBILE Ala. On Sunday, June 1, 2025, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Mobile police officers responded to a shooting at 6. S. Joachim Street (Saenger Theatre).
Upon arrival, officers found chaos and discovered two victims had been struck by gunfire.
The Mobile Fire-Rescue also arrived on the scene and at that time, one victim was pronounced deceased, while the second victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Upon further investigation, officers discovered a dance recital for children was being held at the Saenger Theatre.
Police said that a male subject was involved in an argument with a known individual inside of the building. It was discovered that the subject shot the known male victim during the dispute, with a bullet also striking a second victim in the process.
The subject, later identified as Marcus Sanders, 27, fled the area on foot, but later turned himself in to the authorities a short time later. He was arrested and booked into Metro Jail late Sunday night. After confirming with the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office, he is being charged with Murder and Assault 1st.
The deceased victim has been identified as Carl Williams III, 27.
Chief Jackson stated Sunday night on-scene, “To bring this to a child’s dance recital is despicable.”
