DAPHNE, AL. A mother who left several of her children alone at a Daphne hotel while she traveled outside of the state has been arrested.
Concerned staff at the Comfort Suites on North Main Street notified police Saturday evening after becoming concerned that two young children appeared to have no supervision and had been left alone for an extended amount of time.
Police arrived and found two children, including the youngest, who was a non-verbal, autistic child, just five years old, who had been left in the hotel room and did not know where their mother was.
Daphne police assessed the situation and were eventually able to track down their mother.
The mother, identified by police as 33-year-old Hassanah Jabriah Smith of New Jersey, told officers that she had only been gone a short time, then stated that she was in Tennessee and eventually stated that she had gone to Atlanta but was on the way back, said Daphne Police Chief Brian Gulsby.
When Smith arrived back at the hotel, she was placed under arrest and was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, each carrying a $1,000 bond.
