Seven persons were arrested on just one charge over the weekend- “Attempting to Elude” law enforcement according to police.

Beginning on Friday, March 14th-March 16, 2025, drivers on both sides of the bay attempted to flee from law enforcement, but all were captured according to the police.

In Alabama, intentionally fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer after receiving a signal to stop is a Class A misdemeanor, which can become a Class C felony if the flight causes death or injury.

In many other states, the charge of fleeing/eluding law enforcement is a felony once you flee law enforcement with the intent of resisting arrest.

Among the arrests this weekend in Mobile for fleeing law enforcement was:

Jimmy Lee Salter

Don J Leatherwood

Tom Barnes

Orlando Martin (Felony)

Kelsey L Alexander

In the last five years, police nationwide have seen a significant uptick in the number of drivers who flee police resulting from traffic stops.

Police theorize that it’s because many states have tightened their pursuit policies only allowing officers to pursue a driver if a felony has been committed or if the driver is a known to be a wanted person for violent crimes.
Other reasons include that more people are behind the wheel of a car and driving with suspended or revoked driver’s licenses and driver’s that are under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances.
