GULF SHORES, Ala. Gulf Shores Police have added a new member to its department, and his name is Jango.
Jango is a two-year-old German Shepherd born in the Czech Republic, a Gulf Shores Police Department Facebook post said.
He and his handler, Officer Gabe Trujillo, just completed a paws-itively “rigorous” certification process with the Escambia County, Fla., Sheriff’s Office in preparation for the job, the post said.
Gulf Shores Police Department K9 handler Gabe Trujillo and officer Jango went through extensive training with Escambia County, Fla., Sheriff’s Office and are now on duty.
Jango is certified for patrol and narcotics detection, making him a dual purpose K-9, the post said.
“When you see him out on patrol, feel free to ask if you can say hello,” the post said. “He loves meeting new friends.”
In support of the K9 for Kids program, the department has a Jango plushie available for purchase, according to the Gulf Shores Police.
