The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office was called to assist a local grocery store with an internal theft issue and an investigation followed that resulted in four arrests.
The Greer’s Cash Saver located in Semmes suspected that several people had been taking merchandise, mostly meat products from the store without paying for it.
Several employees were interviewed regarding their involvement with the theft of merchandise consisting of meat products and the investigation showed that the employees, their friends and family were purchasing merchandise that included chicken, ground beef, bacon and steaks for extremely discounted prices.
According to sheriff investigators, the manager of the meat department would attach price tags that he created to the merchandise at much lower prices than the actual cost.
The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Ernest Ray Gray, Roand Alphonse Taylor, Jo Ann Mosley, and Latonya Harris for Organized Retail Theft.
The approximate total loss for the grocery store chain as of right now is over $2,700.00.
However, the sheriff’s department has reported that their investigation is ongoing, and they encourage anyone with additional information to contact the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office at 251-574-8633. If you would like to provide information anonymously, you may do so here.
