A Saturday trip into the Gulf waters to do a little diving quickly turned into a medical emergency for one member aboard the 40-foot vessel.

The U. S. Coast Guard received an emergency distress signal and heard marine radio transmissions from a vessel hailing for assistance.

A diver was experiencing a serious medical emergency onboard and needed immediate medical care and transfer to a medical facility.

That triggered an immediate multi-agency effort to assist in getting that person to the nearest hospital.

Private vessels, the US Coast Guard Pensacola, and the Orange Beach Fire Department were immediately dispatched to assist.

According to a Coast Guard Lieutenant with USCG media affairs, a Coast Guard vessel was dispatched and reached the dive boat and transferred the patient onto their vessel where they took the patient into port, and from there the person was immediately transported to a local trauma center.

The Lieutenant was unable to release the patient’s name or condition.
