MOBILE, Ala. A Daphne man who had been arrested for receiving and distributing child pornography has been sentenced in federal court.

Michael Edward Terrell, 46, pleaded guilty on Jan. 30, 2025, to the charges and has now been sentenced to 135 months in prison and a 15-year term of supervised release.

The United States Department of Justice said that Terrell was identified as an online child pornography distributor between Aug. 22, 2017, and Sept. 5, 2017, by an FBI Online Convert Employee. An FBI search warrant was executed, and authorities found child pornography on his electronic devices.

According to the USDOJ news release, an Alabama Law Enforcement Agency SBI Special Agent learned Terrell was soliciting child pornography on Twitter. ALEA agents obtained the Twitter account’s contents and ultimately confirmed it was Terrell operating the account with an explicit username. Terrell was engaging in conversations with other Twitter users where he requested, that they send him “hardcore” child pornography images.

While in prison, he will be subject to sex offender treatment, substance abuse testing and treatment, and mental health treatment, according to the USDOJ.

Terrell will also be required to register as a sex offender and cannot have contact with minors. The USDOJ release also said Terrell was ordered in court to pay $30,500 in restitution to the victims and $5,100 in special assessments.
