Daphne Firefighters Help Build Wheelchair Ramp for Local Citizen
DAPHNE, Ala.
A Daphne firefighter who responded to an emergency medical call was led to do something more than just treat the illness.
The firefighter noticed that the person, who used a wheelchair had been dependent on an old wheelchair ramp that didn’t look very safe and needed to be rebuilt.
“As we went inside the home, I really felt the Lord tell me like, hey you need to do something for these people,” Zac Foerster said.
Firefighters and EMS treated the patient but the feeling that we could do more stuck with Foerster.
Once they got the go-ahead from the family, firefighters went back to the the family’s home on a hot day in July with their tools, ready to get their hands dirty.
They also got some local businesses to donate some supplies and in no time the new wheelchair ramp was up and looking good.
City leaders became aware of what the fighters did and praised them for stepping up and helping a local citizen when they didn’t have to.
“It was so cool to see everyone come together and just wanna help out,” Foerster said. “I think in life, that’s the way a lot of people want to help they just need somebody to make the first step.”
