DAPHNE, Ala. Police were called to the Walmart store on Highway 98 Sunday night at around 9:15 p.m. after a man fired a gun at the store after being asked to leave his gun in the car.
Daphne Police Department said that the man had a gun in his waistband that was visible, and a store employee asked him to either conceal the firearm or take it to his vehicle and he argued with the store employee.
According to police, the man and a woman who was with him left the store, and when they got outside, police say the man exchanged words with another store employee in the parking lot.
“They got in a vehicle and began to exit the parking lot,” Daphne Police Chief Brian Gulsby said. “He was in the passenger side, leaned all the way out the open window and fired a round towards the building.”
Investigators said they found evidence of a bullet hole outside of the building. No one was injured, but police said this is a situation that could’ve escalated quickly.
Police said that no one was injured but that investigation is still ongoing as police are looking into several leads and surveillance video, and the man could be charged with a felony.

MOBILE, Ala. Authorities say that a Mobile woman has been indicted arrested after leaving her newborn baby at the hospital after giving birth. That child tested positive for drugs police said. and this is not the first time that the woman has given birth to a child who tested positive for drugs.
34-year-old Raven Jones was arrested July 10 and charged with child abandonment and chemical endangerment of a child. Three years ago, another baby was born to Jones, who also tested positive for cocaine and opioids.
In Alabama as in many other states, a parent may surrender their child after birth once certain documents are completed and that was not done.
This was not a situation where the “safe haven box” would have applied said a Mobile County Chief Assistant District Attorney, Jennifer Susman.
Under Alabama’s Safe Haven Law, parents can safely surrender their newborn without facing charges, but the law does not apply if the child is considered harmed. Since the newborns tested positive for drugs, prosecutors say they were legally harmed. That’s why Jones is facing charges.
Jones is being held at the Mobile metro jail without bond according to jail records. She’s scheduled to be back in court July 17, 2025.

LOXLEY AL An international stainless-steel manufacturer with operations in Germany, Finland, Brazil, Canada, China, is now adding the United States to their growing business, and in fact, they’re moving their headquarters to a 50-acre location in Loxley.
The Butting Corporation is investing $61 million to establish its North American headquarters and its first U.S. production facility. Founded in 1777 in Germany, Butting produces stainless steel pipe technology, clad pipes, customized spools and components, and cryogenic pipe and valve technology systems.
“Investing in Baldwin County was driven by the area’s overall attractiveness to live and work, a skilled labor force, proximity to key transportation routes and welcoming business environment,” said Adrian Rochofski, CEO and managing director of Butting USA.
The project, which will unfold in two phases, is expected to create 100 jobs at the Loxley facility.
Phase one will focus on the headquarters, engineering functions and the fabrication of stainless-steel spools, components and cryogenic pipe systems. Phase two will build out the production operations, integrating two stainless steel welded pipe mills, expanding the cryogenic production portfolio and expanding the fabrication capabilities.
“This is a historic project for our community, bringing new opportunities, long-term investment and international recognition to our city and our people,” said Loxley Mayor Richard Teal.
Lee Johnson, executive vice president of the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance, said, “Butting’s decision to locate their North American headquarters in Baldwin County is evidence that we are a premier location in the United States for international companies.”
The official groundbreaking of Phase 1 is expected to occur this fall, with construction and hiring ramping up in the next weeks.
Ellen McNair, secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce, added Butting’s decision increases German companies’ investments in the state. “This investment not only brings high-paying jobs to Loxley but also supports the growth of a German industry cluster that will generate long-term economic benefits across the region. We’re proud to welcome Butting to Alabama, and we look forward to building a lasting partnership,” McNair said.

BALDWIN COUNTY Ala. The price of stamps has once again risen and will cost you 78 cents for your Forever Stamps. The federal government raised the price of stamps on Sunday.
The price of first-class forever stamps has increased by 5 cents, rising from 73 cents to 78 cents, according to Senior U.S. Postal Service representative Marti Johnson.
Johnson called the jump a “rational and realistic approach.”
The United States Postal Service made the request to the Postal Regulatory Commission back in April.
At the time, former U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy previously warned postal customers to get used to “uncomfortable” rate hikes as the Postal Service seeks to become self-sufficient. He said price increases were overdue after “at least 10 years of a defective pricing model.”
Some say that sending a letter will soon reach a dollar and wonder if it’s worth the cost, while many are sending their communications via the Internet.
DeJoy resigned in March after nearly five years in the position, leaving as President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency had floated the idea of privatizing mail service.
Deputy Postmaster General Doug Tulino has taken on the role of postmaster general until the Postal Service Board of Governors names a permanent replacement for DeJoy.
Trump once considered putting USPS under the control of the Commerce Department in an effort to stop losses at the $78 billion-a-year agency, which has struggled at times to balance the books with the decline of first-class mail.
USPS workers nationwide have also rallied against Trump’s administration for plans to privatization fearing that there would be substantial job losses and big delays.
Many consumers say that they have substantially reduced their stamp use over the past few years and have opted for making bill payments online.

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. A woman has died in a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 11 p.m. Friday, July 4, 2025, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
The Semmes woman has been identified as Devi V. Weems, 62, and troopers said that she was fatally injured after being struck by the 2008 Chevrolet Impala driven by William G. Wilson, 60, of Citronelle.
Authorities said that the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The crash occurred on Alabama 217 near the 14-mile marker, approximately five miles north of Semmes, in Baldwin County.
ALEA said that Wilson left the scene of the crash but he was located a short time later with the assistance of the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office. Wilson was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injuries, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Marijuana Second Degree. On July 5, Wilson was booked into the Mobile County Metro Jail with a $33,250 bond.

SPANISH FORT, Ala. Investigators with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Investigative Support Division obtained a search warrant for a person suspected of possessing child pornography and on July 9, 2025, the sheriff’s unit executed the search warrant at the 13000 block of Antler Hill Rd, Spanish Fort, Al.
According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, the search warrant was the result of a three-month long investigation into the possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material. The case was initiated from a tip provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
During the search, 27-year-old Ty Cole Davisson, who was the target of the investigation, was contacted at the location. An onsite preliminary analysis of electronic devices revealed Child Sexual Abuse Material. These devices were under the control of Davisson.
Davisson was subsequently taken into custody and charged with 4 counts of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material, a class C Felony. Davisson was booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Center. As of Monday, July 14, 2025 he was being held on a $60,000 bond.

FAIRHOPE Ala. The City of Fairhope Planning Commission convened on July 7, 2025, to discuss several key agenda items, primarily focusing on subdivision approvals. The meeting began with a public hearing regarding the final plat approval for Rockwell Place, a major subdivision proposed by Sawgrass Consulting on behalf of FST Rockwell LLC. This subdivision encompasses 10 commercial lots spread over approximately 13 acres, located on the east side of State Highway 181, adjacent to the Harvest Green East subdivision.
Mike Jeffries, representing the city, outlined the subdivision’s details, noting that it is zoned B2 in a general business district. The proposed layout includes shared ingress and egress points for several lots, with specific access arrangements for Lots 9 and 10. The site has been stabilized and landscaped, and all necessary utilities have been inspected and approved by the city. The commission unanimously approved the final plat for Rockwell Place after closing the public hearing, signaling a positive step for commercial development in the area.
The second item on the agenda was the El Pizzo two-lot minor subdivision, requested by the Elpizo Corporation and represented by Evan Geertz of DDG. This subdivision, located at 8100 McGowan Drive, spans approximately 17 acres and is zoned M1 for light industrial use. The purpose of this subdivision is to facilitate future development by dividing the property into two lots.
Jeffries provided insights into the existing conditions, including drainage considerations and utility access. The commission discussed the need for a temporary drainage easement and the requirement for future development to adhere to city utility standards. The public hearing for this item was opened, but no public comments were made. Following the discussion, the commission moved to approve the subdivision with conditions related to utility coordination and the establishment of an ingress and egress easement.
In summary, the meeting highlighted the commission’s commitment to managing growth and development in Fairhope, with both subdivisions receiving favorable recommendations for approval. The next steps will involve further coordination with city utilities and adherence to the established conditions for both projects.

GULF SHORES Ala. Following the successful launch of the Allegiant Airline service on May 21, Gulf Shores International Airport (GUF/JKA) is already looking to the future.
The Airport Authority has begun exploring the potential expansion of the terminal to ensure continued success and to support growing passenger demand. The airport is proactively studying design options with the understanding that airlines make future scheduling decisions months in advance.
As part of this planning effort, the Authority has entered a contract with Vasey Aviation Group to evaluate a design for terminal enhancements. If pursued, the improvements would include expanding the gate area, increasing curbside space, and enlarging baggage claim facilities.
A final decision on whether to move forward with any construction, including how any expansion would be funded, is expected later this Fall.
“Believe it or not, we are already pursuing the idea of expanding our terminal facility, and this next phase could carry us forward for years to come,” said Jesse Fosnaugh, Airport Director.
“Staying ahead the airlines is important. They make schedule decisions six to nine months in advance and being in front of that planning curve is essential. Residents and visitors expect convenient travel and low fares, and we intend to make that integral to any terminal concepts.”
Vasey Aviation played a key role in bringing the terminal project together ahead of Allegiant’s service launch, meeting a tight development timeline to have facilities ready by May 21.
In addition, the Airport Authority has approved LuLu’s as the first official food and beverage provider for the airport terminal. Known for its vibrant, family-friendly atmosphere and coastal cuisine, LuLu’s will provide a warm Gulf Shores sendoff to every traveler through expanded dining services and retail offerings beyond security screening.
