Burris Market to Become a WaWa Convenience Store
LOXLEY, Ala,
The market where thousands of people have shopped for decades to get their farm fresh vegetables will soon be just another WaWa Convenience Store.
The iconic Burris Farm Market that locals and visitors shopped at year after year closed earlier this year to the shock and surprise of many.
Local farm produce, fresh baked goods, and an array of jams, relishes, and other goodies are all but a memory now.
Right now, you have a chance to get a piece of those memories because they’re auctioning off all the assets in the store. Everything from counters to kitchen equipment must go.
Greg Burris says he is selling the corner lot and keeping some of the property behind the market. Burris says the existing building will be torn down.
My dad started by selling from a little stand up the street and then we expanded and loved what we were doing but it’s a different world now. The costs of farming have really made it hard on local farmers.
Representatives said that it’s too early to share details about their new location.
“They’re going to put a WaWa gas station there and convenience store,” said Burris.
The live auction is on Tuesday, October 15th, at 8 in the morning. If you can’t be there to bid live, you can bid online. For more information, visit www.mpauctioneers.hibid.com or call Matt Presley Auctioneers at 251-222-6301.
