BAY MINETTE, AL. A man who admitted to robbing a Bay Minette bank in June and had reached a plea agreement, but instead entered a “blind plea” on Monday.

Dondi J. Pettway, 47, of Mobile is accused of robbing the United Bank branch on June 2nd, 2025, will not have the benefit of a sentencing recommendation from federal prosecutors.

According to a narrative provided by prosecutors, Pettway walked up to the only teller and passed a stickup note demanding all of the money. At one point, he told the teller to hurry up, saying, “Don’t make me pull this gun,” according to the prosecution account.

Pettway, who kept his hand in his waistband to give the impression he was armed, made off with $2,047. As he left, according to the prosecutor narrative, other bank employees took photographs of Pettway’s unmasked face.

Not long after the robbery, officers with the Spanish Fort police later pulled Pettway over and found the cash in his pocket and placed him into custody.

A judge set sentencing for Nov. 17.

According to current sentencing guidelines, the maximum penalty is 20 years in prison.
