GULF SHORES Ala.

During the weekend, lifeguard rescue crews reported dozens of water rescues in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.

During this time, double red flags were flying notifying swimmers that there are high hazard conditions, such as strong waves or currents. It means that while swimming is not prohibited, it’s strongly discouraged and only recommended for experienced swimmers who are cautious.
If a red flag is present, it’s best to avoid swimming and stay on the shore.

In Gulf Shores, 11 people were rescued and two were transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

Orange Beach officials reported that there were 24 water rescues made. No one was injured.

Some areas had double red flags flying at the time which indicate that the water is closed to the public due to extremely dangerous conditions, such as strong rip currents or other hazards. It means swimming and other water activities are prohibited.

In Alabama, entering the water during a double red flag could lead to a criminal citation or an arrest.
